Normandy Day
Learn about the impact of World War II on France with this emotive and enlightening tour. Visit locations and landmarks that were the scene of many key moments throughout the war, including the Normandy beaches where the D-Day landings took place. Begin the experience by meeting your knowledgeable guide who, well-versed in the history of World War II, will make the stories behind the sites seemingly come to life. First of all is a drive to the famous Beach of Normandy; drive there in a deluxe air-conditioned vehicle. Visit the Pointe du Hoc, a range of astounding cliffs almost 30 meters high. This site, one of the strongpoints of the German fortifications, was where 225 rangers landed on the morning of June 6, 1944. Continue then towards Colleville-sur-Mer for a remembrance visit to the American Cemetery, which contains over 9,000 perfectly aligned white crosses. All other decoration on the landscape is limited to a chapel and a memorial; a site for quiet introspection. After that moment of pause, head towards Arromanches where you can visit the vestiges of the artificial harbour known as Mulberry Bridge, Longues-sur-Mer and the German artillery battery which ruthlessly hammered the Allied forces on 6 June. The latter is the only coastal battery that conserves its guns, making it a chilly portrait of what wartime must have looked like. Before your drive back to Paris, stop at the Caen Memorial, a place for reflection on the horrors of war and, specifically, this war which still haunts us today. Languages English.

Giverny and Auvers sur Oise by minibus
Dive straight into a dreamy Monet painting and discover where Van Gogh spent the last hundred days of his tragic life with this trip to the beautiful towns of Giverny and Auvers-sur-Oise, whose beauty and tranquillity inspired some of the greatest art of modern times. Begin with a trip to romantic Giverny to explore the beloved home of one of France’s most talented painters, Monet, who lived here and drew his inspiration from the beauty of his surroundings from 1883 until his death in 1926. Monet’s home was tremendously important to him, and his vast landscaping project transformed the gardens into a pastoral wonderland. Visit his famous lily ponds and Japanese bridge and discover the gentle French light that inspired his work. Then head to the Giverny Museum of Impressionism to see some of the paintings he made while living here. A delicious local lunch is served at the nearby Moulin de Fourges restaurant, with drinks included. In the afternoon, visit Auvers-sur-Oise and take a guided tour of the village where Vincent van Gogh lived upon leaving the clinic at Saint-Rémy, where he had committed himself upon experiencing hallucinations, delusions and mood swings. Tragically, his stay in Auvers-sur-Oise was cut short when he shot himself in a fit of mania, dying a day later. He was extremely prolific in his last days, and his paintings show an energy and fervour that marks them as some of his best pieces. Pay tribute to this tortured genius and the incredible legacy he left to art with a visit to his bedroom at the Auberge Ravoux. The Giverny and Auvers-sur-Oise tour from Paris touches on both the tragedy and ecstasy of two great masters of 20th-century art.
