Loire Valley Chateaux Tour from Paris

Go on a reconnaissance of the Loire Valley and engage with three riverside Chateaux from the romantic Renaissance period. Highlights - Explore one of the most recognisable chateaux in the world: Chambord - Admire the lavish interior of Cheverry Chateau - Admire the lavish interior of Cheverry Chateau With guided tours of Chenonceau Castle, Cheverny and Chambord Chateaux, you have a smorgasbord of French style and country chic to engorge on. Built on the site of an old mill, Chenonceau Castle stands on the side of the River Cher. The roots of the Castle lie in the 11th century, and after that tells a chequered story of malicious fire, destruction, rebuilding, repossession, disputed ownership, periods of habitation and abandonment, use as a hospital during World War I, and as an escape route during the Second World War. Now privately owned and faithfully restored to its former glory, Chenonceau displays elements of late Gothic and early Renaissance architecture. Cheverry Chateau is renowned for its lavish interiors and collections of furniture, tapestries and objects d’art. Its ownership charts the rise, fall and restoration of French aristocracy, a reflection of the main historical periods of France. Chambord Chateau is arguably one of the most recognisable chateaux in the world due to its architectural blend of medieval and Renaissance design, giving it a quintessentially French appearance. Chambord is the most typical representation of a castle with a keep, corner towers, and a moat. It is the largest Chateau in the Loire region and boasts 440 rooms, 282 fireplaces, and 84 staircases. Instead of a tale of two cities, this tour will take you on a tale of three Chateaux! You will be enlightened, entertained and impressed by your day in Chateaux Country. You will be provided food and drinks during winter (01/11-31/3). During summer (01/04-31/10) food and drinks are not provided but the guide can tell you the best places in town where you can go to eat.

Paris in a Day: Notre Dame, Louvre, Eiffel Tower and Seine River Cruise

Paris is a city with a lot of history and even more attractions so if you want to see the best of it in a day, it helps to go with an expert guide who will take care of logistics and tell you the story of the city as you go, including the characters, facts, myths and lore and will make the experience unforgettable. Highlights - Priority access to the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower - Visit to Sacré-Cœur and the Notre Dame Cathedral - Relaxing one-hour cruise on the Seine Your day starts at the base of Montmartre hill from where you’ll where you’ll meet your guide and your small group of no more than 15 people, then take the funicular to Sacré-Cœur Basilica. After taking in stunning views of the city, your guide will lead you through the winding streets of Montmartre, stopping off at the neighborhood vineyard, artist hangout Place du Tertre, and a reconstructed windmill, much like those made famous by the cabaret club (and movie) Moulin Rouge. Next you’ll catch the subway - Paris’ best mode of transport - for a short trip to the Île de la Cité, Paris’s oldest district. As you explore the winding streets and step inside the world-famous Notre Dame Cathedral, you’ll learn how Paris grew from a Roman outpost into the crown Jewel of Europe. From the Île de la Cité, it’s only a short walk to the Louvre, where you’ll enjoy a 1-hour lunch break (with recommendations from your guide) before diving into the largest art museum in the world, to see some of its most spellbinding works of art. The highlight is, of course, da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Your guide will help you understand why the painting is so significant and how, after all these years, it has managed to maintain its reputation as one of the world’s greatest works of art. After another short subway ride you’ll find yourself staring up at the Eiffel Tower from the best vantage point at Trocadéro Plaza, learning the incredible story of how it was built. When you get to the base you’ll skip the lines and climb directly to the second storey for more great views of Paris. On the Tower your guide will depart but as a parting a gift they’ll leave you with a ticket for a one-hour Seine river cruise that you can use immediately (we’d recommend it since it’s almost sunset) or save for the next day. Cruising from west to east and back again, this boat tour (audio included if you wish), passes such monuments as the Musée d'Orsay, the Louvre, and Notre Dame, allowing you to get a new vantage point on sites you saw earlier plus many beautiful bridges including the Pont Neuf. And that’s it; in just one day you’ll have seen Paris by foot and water, skipping its longest lines to see its most popular attractions, plus a few local favorites along the way.

D-Day beaches and memorials with Norman lunch

Set out for a remarkable day as you travel across Normandy, France and discover a deep history set in a magnificent landscape. Stand in the midst of the landing beaches and be moved by the emotions that so many travellers have experienced before. Be taken back in time as this tour masterfully brings together the most poignant historical sites and an appreciation for Normandy's rich traditions. Head out early and make your way to the picturesque lush greenery flanking the Atlantic seaboard on the northern coast of France. As you travel through the charming countryside, it’s hard to imagine that this area once served as the violent stage for the largest amphibious invasion in history. Listen as your guide illuminates the historic series of events that surround you. Arrive at the Utah Beach Museum, housed in an original German bunker on the very beach where the first American troops landed. Learn about the complicated planning behind Operation Overlord, along with touching stories of ordinary men and women who helped shape the face of Europe today. The museum offers unparalleled views over Utah beach and is home to one of the only six remaining B-26 airplanes left in the world. Gain a better understanding of the events of D-day by experiencing the Norman countryside also. Enjoy the people and traditions of the region. Stop for a brief visit in a traditional Norman cider-making orchard where you'll take a taste of the cider and Calvados, before making your return to the city. We’ll continue our exploration of Normandy with a typical Norman-style lunch, freshly prepared for us with only seasonal ingredients. We’ll enjoy our meal in a charming, local restaurant with a view overlooking the port of Grandcamp Maisy. After lunch we will travel to Pointe du Hoc, a German defense situated on the cliff tops and heroically taken by US Rangers. Many of the original German fortifications have been left in place and the area is still scarred by bomb craters. We’ll also have the opportunity to pay our respects to the fallen at the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer. The cemetery is located on a bluff that overlooks Omaha Beach, which was one of the landing beaches of the D-Day invasion. Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., son of President Theodore Roosevelt and a Medal of Honor recipient, is buried here together with the almost 10,000 soldiers who sacrificed their lives. Our stop in the area includes a visit to the Omaha Beach Visitor Centre, where we’ll learn that despite meticulous planning of the Omaha Beach landings, very little went as planned. Your guide will use the time spent driving to provide enriching commentary and answer questions, preparing you for each stop on the tour. This will leave plenty of time for you to explore freely upon arrival and focus on what is important to you.
