Despite being internationally recognized as a national symbol of Turkey nowadays, the history of Turkish coffee actually began quite late in time. The Ottomans imported the very first coffee beans into what now is Turkey from Egypt in 1519. It then took 30 more years of business struggles for the first coffee shops to open in the district of Eminonu. After that, coffee had to still wait a very long before sinking into the Ottoman zeitgeist – many sultans issued prohibition decrees against the bean… but, as time went by, they proved to be of no avail. Eventually, coffee rose to its current status of national beverage. This tour begins with a course where you will learn how to make Turkish coffee. Once you have mastered the technique, you will even be presented with a certificate to show your friends back home. Afterwards, continue the trip on a historical Coffee Route which, of course, contains plenty of coffee breaks. Explore some historical venues that let you enjoy a taste of Turkish delight. Let the ancient atmosphere of the labyrinthine streets, historical walkways and mysterious old bazaars enchant you. Alongside your guide, well-versed in the history of the city, the stories behind each and every building you encounter will seem to come to life before your eyes. Meeting/pick-up point: Hotel. Whirling Dervishes Ceremony - with Transfers

The branch of Sufic mysticism, practiced widely in contemporary Turkey, is rooted in a man called Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi, and is famous for its Whirling Dervish Tradition, where through rotating on the left foot by crossing over it with the right, the Dervish reaches a spinning intensity, rotating to the music that musicians play close by. As we observe them revolve with their necks out and their head leaning to the side, we sense that they are in love with their way of life. Sufism is apart from the Islamic religion because of its nature as a kind of transcendental metaphysics which accepts all religions as one and is founded upon universal and unconditional forgiveness. You can admire this fascinating ceremony by joining us for this tour where you will be taken to enjoy this 2 hour ceremony.
