The castle was built in 1348 by the order of Charles IV, King of Bohemia, Holy Roman Emperor. Charles intended to use Karlsteijn as a storage location for the Crown jewels, holy relics and the treasury. Nowadays, Karlsteijn is a popular destination and often used as movie set. Although close to Prague’s city borders, the castle lies in the middle of beautiful nature, even “mountainous” terrain. Under supervision of a guide we will visit the castle after which we will have a serene stroll through the old streets, filled with souvenir shops in authentic buildings.
