Mae Ping River Experience in English
Want to see the real Chiang Mai? Come along then! We've got temples and monks to discover, a cruise on the Mae Ping River to enjoy, yummy noodles to slurp, a local farmer to meet, and markets to explore. Our Chiang Mai city tour adventure will begin by exploring the Warorot Market, one of the largest markets in Chiang Mai. Almost everything is for sale here from food to clothing to hill tribe crafts. At the market, you'll have plenty of time to taste and sample local specialties before moving on to the Ton Lam Yai Flower Market, overflowing with colourful, fresh cut flowers. Next, we’ll take a songthaew to Wat Chai Mongkol, a magnificent temple that was built on the banks of the Mae Ping River. Take part in a local Buddhist practice by offering alms to monks and learning about other interesting religious traditions. Then it’s time to take a cruise up the Mae Ping River, one of the main rivers in northern Thailand and the lifeline of Chiang Mai. Our Mae Ping River cruise will reveal villages and rural life played out on the river shores, and your guide will offer insight into local livelihood and history throughout the journey. Next on our Chiang Mai tour we'll enjoy a sumptuous Khao Soi lunch at a local farmer’s house. This noodle dish is often made with chicken or beef, served over Chinese egg noodles, and garnished with shallots, cilantro, pickled mustard greens, fried whole chilies, and a squeeze of lime juice. It's totally delicious, and a must-try food in Chiang Mai! After lunch, we'll visit a garden to learn about local vegetables, herbs, and the medicinal properties of plants, before returning to Chiang Mai by cruise back. This is where our Chiang Mai city tour will come to an end, and you're free to continue exploring the markets at your leisure.

Doi Inthanon National Park
Live the high life in Thailand with a full-day trip to Doi Inthanon, the country’s highest peak. The invigorating mountain air and cool climate provides the ultimate respite from the city. This spectacular peak that rises to 2,600 metres above sea level is a nature lover’s paradise of vast forests. The 19th century king Inthawichayanon fought to preserve this fertile, mossy terrain. After his death, his remains were placed in a summit-topping shrine and the mountain was renamed in his honour. Today it is the centrepiece of a national park. The mountain is home to almost 400 species of birds and the verdant upper slopes are covered in orchids and lichens. Keep your eyes open and maybe you will see a green-tailed sunbird or chestnut-crowned laughingthrush. This paradise is also the home to Hmong and Karen hill tribes, who cultivate terraced rice fields and greenhouses. See how the Karen people live with a visit to one of their villages. More natural wonders await at the picturesque waterfalls of Mae Kland and Wachiratharn. En route to the summit, you will visit two recent additions: two golden spires built by the Royal Thai Air Force to commemorate the 60th birthdays of the king and queen of Thailand. At the summit, visit the King Inthawitchyanon shrine before setting off on a short trek along Michael’s Trail, a platform walkway that weaves above a mossy bog. Be at one with nature like never before in this beguiling national park. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.

We cross the bridge back to where our car waits for us. Then we drive around the old citywalls of Lamphun and pay a visit to the shrine for the first queen Chamadevi. Then we head back to Chiang Mai. We follow in the footsteps of Captain McLeod, a British officer, who undertook this journey on January 11, 1837. His entourage consisting of about 30 persons on horseback or walking travelled from Lamphun to Chiang Mai, a distance of about 28 kms, which took 5,5 hours. Elephants were used to carry the baggage. “An hour’s marching brought us to the village of Patapa (situated in a grove of mangoe trees), which is the boundary between Zimme (Chiang Mai) and Labong (Lamphun)”. Before reaching Pratupa village we will stop at Wat Ban Luk where we will meet a monk. Opposite Ban Luk temple is a beautiful, more than 200 years old Ubosot (monk’s prayer house) that is currently under renovation. We continue to Pratupa where we will visit the temple and its centuries old scripture house. Here we will have lunch.
