Oceanoarium Lisboa
Twenty two years since its opening, the Oceanário de Lisboa has already received over 25 million visitors. Looking at the initiatives and successive objectives achieved, the Oceanário is a national and international reference of ocean conservation, culture, leisure, entertainment and education. Every year, around one and a half million visitors visit its exhibitions, making it the most visited attraction in Portugal. The imposing central aquarium, with around five million liters of water, represents the Global Ocean, housing more than one hundred species from four oceans. Around it, four marine habitats are represented (North Atlantic, Antarctic, Temperate Pacific and Tropical Indian) creating the illusion of looking at a single aquarium, one ocean. The visit takes place on two levels, the terrestrial and the underwater, crossing the temperate, tropical and cold waters of the different oceans of the planet. Besides de the central aquarium, there are two more exhibitions: - "Forests Underwater" by Takashi Amano presents the tropical forests and their aquatic systems through the largest and most stunning "nature aquarium" in the world. - "ONE - The Ocean as you never felt it" by Maya de Almeida Araújo is an artistic installation portrays the deep connection between humans and the sea, while invoking the grandeur of the ocean.
