Campo De’ Fiori, Trastevere, and the Jewish Ghetto - Small Group Food Tasting Tour

Foodies of the world, unite! Whether you’re a seasoned gourmand or just a food lover wishing to find out more about Roman cuisine and Italian food traditions, reach our meeting point. You’ll join our local food connoisseur guide for a food walk, in a group of no more than 12 people (and yes, you’ll try and taste lots of different treats!). We’ll meet mid-morning and enjoy a lovely walking tour through local food markets, grocery stores and gelato shops in the areas of Campo De’ Fiori, Trastevere, and the Jewish Ghetto. We know that exercise makes one hungry, that’s why we thought you’d appreciate some pit-stops. For instance, you’ll enjoy a slice of freshly baked crispy pizza bianca (Rome’s own version of focaccia) cut in half horizontally and filled with thin slices of freshly cut mortadella: a traditional, more-Roman-than-the-Colosseum easy snack that locals love. And what about trying a supplì? This little ball of deep-fried tomato sauce risotto with a heart of melted mozzarella cheese is everyone’s favorite street food. Pasta will be on the list too, along with some dishes from the Roman Jewish tradition: the carciofo alla giudia, a Jewish style deep-fried artichoke that resembles a tiny sunflower, as well as filetto di baccalà, a fleshy fillet of cod, battered and deep-fried. And save some space for dessert because we won’t skip our portion of artisan gelato!

Skip the line: Extended Vatican Museums tour - In German

The Vatican Museums are home to over nine miles of art, much of which is never seen by the general public, either for timing or access reasons. Delve deeper into the Vatican Museums than ever before with this Extended Vatican Tour that takes you where the public can’t usually go and visits more general access areas of the museums than a classic Vatican tour. This special Skip the line tour crosses velvet ropes to gain rare access to the famous Bramante Staircase, a dizzying spiral of carved stone built in 1512 inside a square tower. It once bore the weight of horses, but few ever set foot on it these days, making this visit particularly special. A sure highlight of the tour will be the beautiful paintings of the Vatican Pinacoteca painting gallery, including Raphael’s ‘Transfiguration’, Caravaggio’s ‘Deposition from the Cross’ and Leonardo Da Vinci’s unfinished ‘St. Jerome in the Wilderness’. On top of that we’ll visit all the general access rooms covered in our basic Vatican Museums tour, from the Pinecone Courtyard to the Gallery of Tapestries, the Gallery of the Maps, the Gallery of the Candelabra and a highlight of any tour – the Raphael Rooms. Of course your tour also includes the Vatican Museums’ most famous room, a room whose threshold has a higher footfall than the museums themselves because so many visitors come twice. Over the course of your tour, your guide will have described the works in here, explaining with the aid of photos and drawings, what each section means so that when you arrive here – at the Sistine Chapel – you’ll have time to yourself to take it all in. The last stop on our extended tour takes you through a special door in the Sistine Chapel and past another long queue to gain access to St. Peter’s Basilica. Every day but Wednesday (when the Papal Audience often means that the Basilica is closed) you’ll have a guided tour inside this colossal building – one of the most important in all of Christianity and home to Michelangelo’s famous sculpture, ‘La Pieta’. This Extended Vatican Museums Tour is perfect for art-lovers and visitors with an interest in seeing a little more of what the Vatican Museums have to offer. Languages German. Others: • Extra measures may be implemented at some venues due to heightened global security. As a result, we may experience delays in getting through mandatory security checks when entering these venues. Extra measures may also restrict the size of bags that can be brought inside. To avoid disruptions or possible denied entry, we strongly suggest that you avoid bringing large purses, bags, or backpacks on your tour. The Vatican only permits very small bags, and specifically prohibits large bags, tripods, umbrellas, and backpacks. Any such items must be checked into the free luggage storage area which may result in your having to leave the tour early to retrieve them at the entrance. • The Basilica is subject to last minute closures for religious ceremonies. When this occurs, we are happy to offer customers a longer tour of the Vatican Museums in keeping with the advertised total length of the tour. While we undertake to tell tour groups ahead of time if there are any planned disruptions to Basilica opening hours, this is not always possible and in these cases we are unable to provide refunds or discounts. • Non-flash photography is permitted throughout the tour, except in the Sistine Chapel where talking and photography are prohibited. • As the paintings in the Pinacoteca are world-famous masterpieces, they are often loaned out to other galleries for special exhibitions. For this reason we cannot guarantee that all of the listed works will always be on display in the Pinacoteca Art Gallery when we visit.
