Forbidden City Tickets

The Forbidden City, located in the centre of Beijing, was the imperial palace for 24 emperors during the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368 - 1911). It was forbidden to access without a special permission from the emperor; hence its name 'The Forbidden City'. Once you cross Tiananmen Gate, you will access a walled complex covering an area of 1,110,000 square meters. This magnificent architectural complex known in China as the Palace Museum, holds paintings, calligraphy, ceramics, and antiquities of the imperial collections. Since yellow is the symbol of the royal family, it is the dominant color within the walls. Roofs are built with yellow glazed tiles; decorations in the palace are painted yellow; even the bricks on the ground are made yellow by a special process. In 1987, the Forbidden City was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Evening Chinese Kong Fu Show

Marvel at the culmination of centuries of martial arts with a trip to the Beijing Red Theatre Kung Fu show, where you’ll see some of the most skilled practitioners in the country in action. Kung Fu refers to a range of martial arts, but actually refers to any skill acquired through hard work, and it certainly shows at the Red Theatre, where the long training hours and high standards of the troupe is legendary. Martial arts are one of China’s earliest and most enduring sports, utilising both brawn and brain to develop a fighting style that is as graceful, cerebral and elegant as it is ruthlessly efficient. The theory of Kung Fu is based upon classical Chinese philosophical principles of energy flow and discipline. Over its long history it has developed as a unique combination of exercise, practical self-defence, meditative self-discipline and performance art. Watch the unbelievable flying jumps, spinning kicks and flowing evasive moves of these honed athletes, who train for years to achieve high levels of skill. No traditional kung fu performance would be complete without the ultimate show of discipline, where one performer smashes a board over the other’s body or head, Jackie Chan style. In their traditional costumes, complete with lively music and evocative sets, the performers will lead you on a thrilling adventure back in time to the very roots of this ancient and enigmatic art form.
