Las Ventas bullring tour
In the intensely traditional world of bullfighting one coliseum stands head and shoulders above the others: Las Ventas in Madrid. This fascinating visit to the most famous bullring in the world allows you an insight into Spain’s fiesta nacional as you learn the lore and history behind this most controversial of spectacles from an audioguide. You can follow your own pace as you visit the different areas of the complex. See the tendidos (the bleachers), the arena, the pens where the bulls wait before entering the ring and where the matadors build up their courage, the infirmary, the Puerta Grande - where the fighters dream of being carried out aloft after a successful corrida - and the souvenir shop. Built in neo-Mudejar between 1929 and 1931, Las Ventas has a capacity for almost 24,000 fans, making it the third largest bullring in the world. It has witnessed some of the most dramatic fights in history, with fewer than 100 matadors earning the right to leave by the Puerta Grande. Over the decades, illustrious bullfighting aficionados such as Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles made the yearly pilgrimage to this Mecca for the corridas. Hard Rock Cafe Madrid
See the outfit worn by Madonna on the cover of her You Can Dance album, a guitar signed by Andy Summers of The Police and Spanish-made boots worn by Black Eyed Peas' Fergie. Get VIP priority seating, skip the long lines and feel like a rock star! Highlights - Come to know just why Hard Rock Cafe finds itself in over 50 countries - Step foot inside a dining experience with a difference as you set your eyes over exclusive rock memorabilia - Choose from many menus and pick what suits your taste buds the best It’s only fitting that the Hard Rock Cafe Madrid, the best example of Americana in the city, is located in the plaza named after Christopher Columbus. And it boasts an unbeatable hat-trick of the best burgers, the best atmosphere and the best rock memorabilia collection in town. Like all great revolutions, the Hard Rock Cafe wasn’t meant to succeed. It was 1971 and as the Swinging Sixties had given way to the Super Seventies, fashions and tastes were changing. Two hungry young Americans were in London and couldn’t find a decent place to eat a decent burger… so they opened up a joint in the English capital. Their landlord didn’t think it would last and only gave them a six-month lease. Four decades later, there are almost 200 Hard Rock Cafes in more than 50 countries worldwide. The first T-shirt hit the streets in ‘74 and the first piece of memorabilia came, fittingly, by chance in ‘79 when Eric Clapton asked to hang his Lead II Fender guitar over his favourite bar stool and thus marked it as his spot. Today, the rock 'n' roll collection has more than 74,000 pieces and is the largest of its kind. By 1982, the Hard Rock Cafe had gone global and the rest, as they say, is history (that’s still being written).
