Underground and Michelangelo with wine tasting
Rome is full of magnificent monuments that you will find yourself in front to without even looking for them and many other hidden gems of history and beauty that you might struggle to spot among the biggest treasures. It is always better to have someone local to guide you around, and here we are for you! Just few steps away from the Coliseum there are two magical and enchanted places we would like to take you to. There you can dive in 2000 years of history moving back in time with every step you take. Our first stop will be at the Basilica of Saint Clement, a Roman Catholic Church which constitutes today a unique piece of architecture. The structure is a three-layered complex of buildings belonging to different times: the basilica built during the height of the Middle Ages; the 4th-century basilica beneath and the underground layer dating back to the Roman times. Absorbed in a complete silence and calming darkness, we will visit the spectacular and suggestive underground part of this complex. Guided by our experienced English speaking tour leaders, you will get absorbed in the history of the eternal city. Second stop is another church: San Pietro in Vincoli, just a short walk away. In here one of the greatest masterpieces of Italian sculpture is to be found: the Michelangelo's Moses, an example of superb technique and unparalleled beauty. This piece of artwork is part of Pope Julius II tomb, which he commissioned before his death. Our tour leader will tell you more about this incredible piece of artwork that in the original plan was intended to be inside St. Peter Church! As if the experience was not intense enough, this tour will end with an inviting selection of regional cheeses, premium salami and hams, smoked fish and a choice of hot homemade dishes, together with some of the best Italian wines. During the Wine Tasting you will learn how to drink and taste wine, how to recognize the differences between colors and perfumes, and you’ll get also an introduction about the area where the wines are produced and the denominations.
