Day Tour to the Rhine Valley + Meal & Wine Tasting

There are two options to choose from: a full day tour with lunch and an afternoon tour with dinner. Enjoy a steamer cruise through this beautiful scenery and admire medieval castles, small villages and vineyards. The particular stretch of the Rhine Valley (Rheingau in German) that has been designated a World Heritage Site covers just 65km but manages to pack in terrace after terrace of vineyards, some 60 villages and 40 hilltop castles and fortresses, most of which are in ruins, thus adding to their picture-postcard appeal as they stand sentry over the river. Locals like to boast that nowhere else in the world has more medieval castles than the Rheingau. With the full-day tour, pause at the imposing Niederwald Monument, which was built in the 19th century to commemorate the unification of Germany. True to its age, it is very martial in appearance but the views from it are sensational, commanding as it does a strategic bend on the river. See ruins, belfries, vineyards, the landmark Mouse Tower and the town of Rüdesheim. In summer months, there’s the option of a cable car ride. Have a delicious lunch in a beautiful riverside restaurant, followed by a steamer cruise to picturesque St Goarshausen with the famous Lorelei Rock. The tours end with a small wine tasting in a tavern by the riverbanks. On the half day tour enjoy a steamer cruise from Kaub to Assmannshausen, followed by the dinner and wine tasting. When steamers are not operating, for example in adverse weather conditions or due to high water, a castle will be visited instead. Duration Between five-and-a-half and seven and-a-half hours.
