As we walk through the narrow streets into the heart of the city, peristil, it is easy to see why this imposing World Heritage Monument set the scene for the newest Game of Thrones kingdom. After all, it is the most preserved example of Roman architecture on the eastern coast of the Adriatic. The 1,700-year-old home to emperor Diocletian is a stunning example of a traditional royal villa, Hellenistic town, and Roman camp. Top off your tour with a feast fit for Tyrion Lannister with a G.O.T-inspired meal of eggs, bacon, handmade sausages, and, of course, warm bread with sea salt – a staple of the Westerosi diet.
