Tonle Sap Secrets

It’s not all about archaeological complexes in Siem Reap! Just a few kilometres away is Tonle Sap, ones of the planet’s most productive ecosystems. Join us for this tour and watch the locals forage for survival in a veritable waterworld that evokes an almost pre-historic lifestyle. Begin your adventure in authentic Cambodian style as we travel by remork (the local variant of tuk-tuk) through the countryside to Tonle Sap. This Unesco Biosphere Reserve changes radically depending on the time of year. In the wet season, the lake swells to about 12,000km.sq, while during the dry season it shrinks to 2,500km.sq. Each year, millions of fish come to spawn in the seasonally flooded forest surrounding the lake, attracting a myriad of water birds as well as people, who have settled in villages along the shores and who live with the rhythm of the water. Take a boat trip around the lake to see floating villages and learn how the locals have adapted to a life ruled by monsoonal rains and water-based agriculture. Afterwards jump back on the remork to return to Siem Reap. Take the back roads and witness seasonal activities such as cricket catching, rice planting and harvesting, fish smoking, prohoc making (the production of fish paste) and duck farming. Stop at a local village to pick up Khmer snacks, have a wander and visit a Buddhist monastery before heading home.

Angkor Adventure

Release your inner Lara Croft and join us for a spot of ‘tomb raiding’ in Angkor, one of the world’s most fascinating archaeological complexes. This full-day tour takes in the must-see ancient sights of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Srah Srang and Ta Prohm. Your adventure starts with a visit to Angkor Wat temple, easily the most famous and best-preserved of all temples within the Angkor complex. As you approach it, its five towers seem to rise majestically out of the moat. Highlights - Get your chance to go tomb raiding at the tomb that featured in the movie itself - Grab a bite to eat after you've built up an appetite - Snap a selfie along with the 200 smily faces at Angkor Thom We then move on to Angkor Thom, visiting Bayon – with its 54 towers decorated with more than 200 enigmatic smiling faces – Phimeanakas, Baphoun, the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. We round things up with a stop at the famous South Gate, where the gods and demons line the road leading to the gate struggling in a cosmic tug-of-war. Top up your energy levels with a sumptuous Khmer lunch near Srah Srang, the Royal Pool of Ablutions, originally reserved for the king and his consorts. Afterwards, choose a nap lazing in a hammock or explore the area and rub shoulders with the locals. Fed and watered, roll on to the haunting Ta Prohm temple, which featured in the Angelina Jolie movie Tomb Raider! Feel like one of the early explorers as you wander around this temple, which has been left to be reclaimed by the jungle and looks as though its collapsing under the weight of sprung trees. If there’s time, finish the day off by climbing one of the oldest buildings in the Angkor complex: the brick pyramid-shaped temple of Pre Rup.
